Today’s Sunday morning sermon is dedicated to to blowing apart the biggest lie and misconception we have going on in the U.S.A. today: America being a Christian Nation<\/p>\n

The mouth runneth over again with Jerry Fallwell:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I don’t believe Mr. Jefferson ever intended for America to become a haven of godless lawmakers who acutely separate themselves from all things Christian.With that in mind, I wish to look back through the annals of history to substantiate the fact that this great nation has historically been involved in religious pursuits and that our government – under the guidance of Thomas Jefferson himself – got wholly involved in the government subsidizing of Christian evangelization and even church building.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

BZZZZT! Wrong again Jerry! Nice attempt at re-writing history, though.<\/h3>\n

My impression is that Jefferson allocated federal money to help the Kaskaskia Indians in all sorts of endeavors, but Mr. Moral Majority is just focusing on the “building a church” part.<\/p>\n

Thomas Jefferson on Christianity:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“One day the dawn of reason and freedom of thought in the United States will tear down the artificial scaffolding of Christianity<\/strong>. And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as His father, in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter.”<\/div>\n

FACT:<\/strong> Our Founding Fathers were mostly Deists, not Christians.
\nTheres a big difference.
\n<\/p>\n

Deists believe in God, but they don’t believe God interferes with the affairs of man (as a Fideist does), and looks upon “revealed religions” like Christianity and Islam with great skepticism.<\/p>\n

Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin and Ethan Allen were all NOTORIOUSLY critical of Christianity and its apparent nature to rob a man of his reason and freedom. They offered a well-reasoned argument that the religion was hijacked by a renegade, intolerant apostle, and 4th century followers building “larger than life” stories about their original and wise (yet often ignored) leader.<\/p>\n

Jefferson on the Christian idea of “religious freedom”:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty<\/strong>. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own”<\/div>\n

If one would understand the basic beliefs of a Deist, one can understand why “endowed by their Creator” would be on government documents, and “In God We Trust” would be on our currency.<\/p>\n

But it would do well for liars like Jerry Falwell to lead you to belive that “Belief in God” is the same as “Being a Christian”. Deists believe in God. Muslims believe in God. Neo-Pagans believe in God. And even our original inhabitants of this country believed in a “Great Spirit”, who can reasonably be assumed to be the same Being.<\/p>\n

A Christian nation will be much like the Puritans of the 1600’s.<\/strong> They fled England because of persecution, and when they set up shop in America, they proved to be no better toward people different from their religious beliefs. A history that we will NEVER repeat.<\/p>\n

It was the foresight and wisdom of our Founding Fathers to keep a separation of Church and State to insure religious freedom for the sole purpose of attracting the “Best of the Best” to the United States. Much of our progress has been due to people of many ethnic and religious backgrounds.<\/p>\n

Jefferson on Freedom of Religion:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“[A]n amendment was proposed by inserting ‘Jesus Christ,’ so that [the preamble] should read ‘A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion’; the insertion was rejected by a great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination”<\/div>\n

Don’t buy into the lies of this EVER being a “Christian Nation”. It is a nation of all people.<\/p>\n

If I were God, I’d create a hell just for charlatans like Jerry Fallwell.<\/p>\n

Jesus did battle with Pharisees just like Falwell back in his day, and I have no reason to believe he’s had a recent change of heart with liars and hypocrites looking to twist the truth to suit their agenda.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
