This year we were given more opportunities than ever to explain our beliefs in many different media outlets and our representatives did an exemplary job. Even when our words were cut back or included alongside the stale old myths from the Satanic Panic of yore, the Church of Satan still maintained enough air time to get the message across – and the message is reaching its audience. A quick scan down the Links page here at our official site tells the tale: our membership is diverse, talented and expanding into new arenas. An important part of Dr. LaVey’s vision was for Satanic aesthetics to reach a large marketplace and to push that marketplace forward; our members are accomplishing this, in spades.

Walpurgisnacht is our climactic Spring Satanic holiday, our time for the revelry that humankind has long associated with witches. The classic image of the witches –  Sabbat involves dark forests through which the promise of the coming warmth and fecundity of Summer has only just begun to breathe. The leaves and buds are still tiny, and the unclad limbs of of the witches glow and shiver in the chilly moonlight as the bonfire builds. The Black Flame of Satan is about to leap forward in its thousands of manifestations – it is simultaneously generous, cruel, beautiful, and destructive. Was it any wonder the cowering God-adorers barred their doors against such a display, warning each other to stay out of the woods and away from the lusty revels of those who walked in the Devil’s fane?
