[#Design] Basic Tips for Color Management

From CreativePro.comBasic Tips for Color Management:

Basic Tips for Color ManagementIn early December, a community of conference-goers explored best practices and new advances in color management at the PIA’s 2016 Color Conference held in Phoenix, Arizona. [#Design] Using #Photoshop Templates

From CreativePro.comUsing Photoshop Templates:

Using Photoshop TemplatesDo you suffer from Blank Page Syndrome like I do? Instead of staring at the void that is a new document, I often like to start with previous project as a guide, which is why I love using templates as a starting point. Photoshop CC 2017 makes that easy by providing templates and building them right into the workflow for us. When creating a new document (File > New), the re-vamped New Document dialog box includes template options. First, choose the type of document you’d like to create from the categories along the top. The first set of options are blank presets, built to size and resolution for the intended purpose. You can make any necessary changes and even save the new preset for future use by clicking the save icon on the right-hand side of the dialog box. Below the presets are several free pre-designed Adobe templates available for download. You also have the option of browsing through Adobe Stock to buy additional templates, using the search option at the bottom. Click on a template once to view information about the template, such as size, colors used, smart object info, and whether or not the sample images will be…

[Design] The Definitive Guide to Quotes, Apostrophes, and Primes

From CreativePro.comThe Definitive Guide to Quotes, Apostrophes, and Primes:

The Definitive Guide to Quotes, Apostrophes, and Primes

Quotation marks, apostrophes, and primes (also known as inch and foot marks) are some of the most misunderstood and misused elements in typesetting. The confusion between them harkens back to the days of typewriters when there was just one style – now called ‘typewriter quotes’ to represent them all. But today’s computers are intended to set professional typography, not just typing for the casual user, therefore the proper glyphs are available in most fonts. Understanding the distinction between these marks and the task of getting them right can be challenging, but essential for the creative professional. If you think you?ve heard me ranting about this topic before, you are right. That is because the misuse of any of these glyphs is one of the most widespread of all type crimes in digital typography, committed by students (who have an excuse), novices, and seasoned professionals alike. This can be due to lack of knowledge, but also because too many creative professionals don’t think it is their job to be concerned about this. They are wrong, as every design job is a group effort, and any error reflects poorly on the entire team, and most especially, the client…

[#Design] Illustrator’s Other Drawing Modes

From CreativePro.comIllustrator’s Other Drawing Modes:

Illustrator?s Other Drawing Modes

If you use Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign, you ought to be familiar with both stacking order and layers. Generally speaking, layers let you segregate groups of content, while the stacking order refers to the order in which items are placed on a particular layer. Illustrator has a few additional options for working with the layering of objects on the page. In addition to the Normal drawing mode, two others – Draw Behind and Draw Inside – can save you time in creating objects in your preferred order…
