Free Lynda.com Video: Creating Infographics with Illustrator
I try to tell my kids what it was like back in the day before the answers to every question were just a click or tap away. To get information on an obscure topic you’d actually have to get in the car, go to the library, and look in the right books. Gathering information took effort. Today, we have the opposite problem: with our many screens, we’re caught in a blizzard of data, bombarded with facts and figures from every angle. How to make sense of it all and communicate meaning is the job of the designer. And a daunting job that can be! That’s why Tony Harmer’s course, Creating Infographics with Illustrator, is a welcome addition to the Lynda.com offerings. Here’s the official course description: Infographics visualize your data and help to tell the story behind it. In this course, Tony Harmer shows how to design charts, graphs, and other infographic components in Adobe Illustrator. He shares some sources of data that you can use in production, and reveals five key components of a great information design. He then takes you through the various types of tools, charts, and functions that you can use in infographic production, before wrapping up on…

(TrendHunter.com) In an effort to appeal to Generation Z and Millennial consumers, Hershey's Brazil created a campaign that allowed the users of its website to interact with chocolate objects for the chance to receive them in a raffle. To create the #Eaternet campaign, Hershey’s Brazil joined up with ad agency Aktuellmix to make what users saw on the company’s website much more real. To have the chance to win one of the unique chocolate sculptures on the website, which ranged from smiley face emojis, to oversized mustaches, and sunglasses, users simply had to purchase one of the brand’s chocolate bars, and enter the code on the wrapper to the website.

From CreativePro.comCreativePro Tip of the Week: Reduce File Size in Photoshop by Cropping or Flattening:

CreativePro Tip of the Week: Reduce File Size in Photoshop by Cropping or Flattening
Need to reduce the file size of a Photoshop document? You may be able to significantly reduce the file size by either cropping or flattening. If you have a layered file, notice the document sizes in the Status Bar below the image. The two values correspond roughly (sometimes very roughly) to the size of your image as a flattened file (on the left), and as a layered file (on the right). If you don’t need to preserve the separate layers, flatten the image by choosing either Layer > Flatten Image or Layer > Merge Visible. If you do need to preserve layers in the file, try cropping the image. Select the Crop tool and press Return or Enter. You will see a crop overlay fitting the canvas…

Meme-Tracking Websites - Me.me Trends is a Search Engine for Popular Internet Memes (TrendHunter.com)
(TrendHunter.com) Even the most embedded internet cruiser is bound to have trouble keeping up with the torrential deluge of memes both generating and evolving constantly, but Me.me Trends is a new tool that can make it easier to track the latter. The website is similar to Google tools like Google Trends or Google Ngrams, but it’s specifically designed to graph the usage of phrases within memes. According to Me.me Trends’ page, the tool “tracks the use of words and phrases…used on at least one day within any meme in the data set.” In other words, the site contains an automatically updating log of memes being created online, and it analyzes the language within these to track the frequency or infrequency of various phrases.

19 Charts That Perfectly Explain Hollywood Logic
By CRACKED Readers Published: April 09th, 2017 – Who doesn’t love a good chart? The answer is no one. From TrendHunter.com – Viral Humor and ComedyRisky Toddler Photography – Stephen Crowley Uses Photoshop to Raise Awareness for Childhood Diseases (TrendHunter.com):

Risky Toddler Photography - Stephen Crowley Uses Photoshop to Raise Awareness for Childhood Diseases (TrendHunter.com)
(TrendHunter.com) Stephen Crowley has found Internet fame after photoshopping his daughter Hannah into what he calls “marginally dangerous situations.” These include the 18-month-old holding a large kitchen knife, hanging over a staircase and climbing a ladder. The images were meant to be humorous, although Stephen Crowley told BuzzFeed News that some people have failed to get the joke. Crowley began snapping pictures of his young daughter after she recovered from a rare disease requiring both chemotherapy and a blood marrow transplant. He decided to have a bit of fun with his family and began using Photoshop to put Hannah in dangerous yet believable circumstances. Now that Stephen Crowley’s photos have gone viral he is using his Internet fame to ask people to donate stem cells and join the bone marrow registry.
