Beyond Tragic

Jesus… πŸ™

I don’t even know where to begin with the MeanKids/Kathy Sierra/Allan Herrell thing. It was just pointed out on Problem Adults, where I saw a disturbing screenshot of the comments made by Rev ED.

But I do know Alan Herrell… and that ain’t him making those comments as “Rev ED”.

When I first arrived on the web scene in the late 90’s, thinking I was some badass, I was snubbed by most of the Techno-Elite. The Head Lemur (as well as Jeffrey Zeldman) was one of the few who were kind to me. We’ve spoken on the phone many times… and he’s offered nothing but encouragement to me.

One thing about my almost-10-year friendship with the Head Lemur… He doesn’t bullshit you. He tells it like it is and he doesn’t mince words.

And he sure as hell doesn’t hide behind a screenname when he speaks his mind.

The posts on Unclebobism is so clearly a frame job. It’s his pic with words that sound nothing like him.

AIDS Ride

Mikki - AIDS/Lifecycle RideMy good friend Mikki is taking place in an event in June: AIDS/Lifecycle

From June 3-9, 2007, I’m bicycling in AIDS/LifeCycle. It’s a 6-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to make a world of difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.

Help me support the HIV/AIDS services of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center by giving what you can. We’ll keep riding until AIDS and HIV are a thing of the past. πŸ™‚

I want to thank everyone for stopping by!

All The Best!!!! Mikki

For more information on how you can help, you can visit Mikki’s Lifecycle page here.

Is our children learning?

U.S. scores low on child welfare

Quote:
The United States and Britain ranked at the bottom of a United Nations survey of child welfare in 21 wealthy countries that assessed everything from infant mortality to whether children ate dinner with their parents or were bullied at school.

From what I’m reading in this, there seems to be a total breakdown of support for families. Particularly for single parent households.

You have religious wack jobs who will tout the “Nuclear family” and nothing else. You have zealots on the right who scream against Hillary’s plan to bring a “Universalized Health Care” system to the U.S. Fact is, kids get sick, and parents can’t afford to take them to the doctors with no insurance.

That’s not to let the Left off the hook. Children being bullied with the lame-ass cliche of “fighting is not the answer” and nothing else doesn’t help. There’s a great program in our district that teaches kids to negotiate and reason with their enemies… but in the real world we know that doesn’t always work.

And Child Protective Services? Don’t even get me started on how many things are wrong with that bureaucracy…

Why I’ll probably never work for another candidate or take advertisers.

Simply put, I’m a snarky, sarcastic, jaded bastard.

I value my All-American rights to free speech and voicing my opinions… regardless of who I piss off. (Don’t get me wrong, I realize I am a reflection of my employers to a certain degree, so I *DO* exercise a certain level of responsibility and accountability in all I do and say). But I despise having to self-censor myself.

Oh and did I forget to mention that I helped make websites and strategies for two campaigns? One Republican and one Democrat. Both were facing major hurdles as underdogs but in the end, they won in landslides.

Yes, this is why some of us colorful web personalities are hired by candidates. Though we have a ton of skeletons in our archives, we’re incindiary, controversial, riveting and damned good at what we do in commanding attention.

Which brings us to the “Brawl of the Week” (hat tip to Wulfgar).

John Edwards, Amanda Marcotte & Melissa McEwan -vs- Michelle Malkin, William Donohue & The Fighting 101st Keyboarders

The Plot: Right Wingers dig up dirt from the archives of Pandagon and Shakespeare’s Sister and demand Edwards fire his bloggers for their content.

The Review: Manufactured outrage by people with skeletons in their own closets who would never vote for Edwards anyway… so why even listen to them? Continue reading “Why I’ll probably never work for another candidate or take advertisers.”

Justice: Internet Style

If you’re not familiar with LoLo, he’s probably one of the best scambusters there is. His posts exposing the fake girl profiles on MySpace or the Truth about the Adult Dating Websites should be required reading for idiots that really think some 21 year old blonde hottie wants them (and their credit card) bad…. (*snicker*)

In October (sorry, I’m slow here.) he helps expose and bust a child predator on MySpace….

Now this is prime humiliation. Justice at its finest… and a lesson to parents everywhere. I love LoLo’s style! πŸ˜€

Parents… watch your kids online, or guys like Chip will do it for you.

News and Gossip

Comic Books to Soldiers in Iraq – “We have a ton of overstock back issues that will never sell in our store. Our customers don’t generally buy back issues. They buy the trades.Regardless of your stance on the War or your politics in Washington, there are Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors stationed overseas that are just like you and me. They are our friends, brothers, sisters, moms and dads, and they should have comics.”

I couldn’t agree more. It’s little gestures like these that show the men and women in our military that we love ’em and appreciate all they do. The idea was cooked up by A Comic Shop’s owner Jason Blanchard who served our country honorably for 6 years. He hopes other comic shops will follow suit and we all spread the word. Way to go, Jason!

Bill Watson’s the man!

It’s not on the online version of the Pocono Record, but today’s paper reveals Kim DeBourbon is resigning as editor.

I wish her well. She was a wonderful person and we saw eye-to-eye on a lot of things that I felt the online version of the paper should have been doing. It was a pleasure to work with her. What confuses me is the article mentioning “Bill Watson and others will be covering until there’s a replacement”.

Are you kidding me? BILL WATSON’S THE MAN! He should be the new editor. He’s sharp. He’s witty. If something was going down in the Poconos, you can bet Bill Watson knew about it. He also has his finger on the pulse of what the people want to read about. Continue reading “Bill Watson’s the man!”

Dumb Stories this Week

Owner: Man tried to hide guitar in pants (AP)
AP – The guitar-shaped bulge in Morgan Conatser’s clothing tipped off a music store owner that there might be a crime in progress. Clifton Lovell, owner of Guitars and Cadillacs on U.S. Highway 71 in De Queen, was talking with a customer last week when he saw Conatser, 29, walking out of the store.

Holiday shoppers keep buying during fire (AP)
AP – An electrical fire that filled a department store with thick smoke didn’t deter holiday shoppers, and firefighters had to block the doors to keep customers from coming in, authorities said.

Court: OK to gossip behind boss’ back (AP)
AP – It’s OK to use derogatory and vulgar language about your superiors in the office as long as it is done behind their backs, a Malaysian court has ruled.

Officers keep record of beautiful women (AP)
AP – Two Swedish border control officers risk disciplinary action for keeping a photo collection of “exceptionally beautiful” women that passed through their checkpoint, police officials said Tuesday.

And probably the dumbest story of all….

MySpace to Purge Sex Offenders
MySpace announced today it will begin searching its 100 million-plus user list for people listed in a national database of sex offenders.

Now you may ask, why do I think that’s dumb? Sure it sounds good at face value, but as it was discussed elsewhere, I have to agree with the Wired article that MySpace is taking the easy way out and giving everyone a false sense of security. Law enforcement could have watched their every move with this new sophisticated technology, but now they’re just kicked out into the darkness to prey elsewhere.

And what’s stopping the predators from coming back under fake names and addresses? Not MySpace’s problem. MySpace “at least did something about the problem”, remember?
Out of sight, out of mind.

And of COURSE sickos will respect their Terms of Service and not come back. Surely they’ll follow the rules… right?
Way to go, MySpace!

UH OH!

America… FUCK YEAH! (or Diebold with a Vengeance)

Oh yeah… much joy in Pennsyltucky today. πŸ˜€

Say Goodbye to Senator Rick (“I’m a closet case that thinks gay marriage will lead to bestiality and NAMBLA”) Santorum (R)…. one of President Bush’s strongest allies….

UNEMPLOYED!
