Loony Dot Org, one of the greatest sites ever created, is being threatened with extinction under ICAAN’s new proposition to revoke “.org” TLD’s at will.

This is completely unacceptable. I need that site to keep me laughing my ass off during the hard times. John is a frigging genius. Hell, if Zeldman considers me the “Don Rickles” of the web… then John is the web’s answer to “George Carlin”…. hands down.

There are lots of “org” sites that are being threatened, like… like…

Well, Loony Dot Org is the only one worth a damn, but you get my point. Get involved!

• The Tribe called Brooks’ latest ordeal has been written as a sequel to “A Holiday Wish”. It’s a six-page story called: “The Last One Out...”

• Magic Fonts – A site offering customized fonts. Some really cool ones available for download.
• Bat World – Sanctuary – A really cool site about the different species of bats. Myths & rumours, educational information. (Say it with me, kiddies: BATS ARE OUR FRIENDS!!!!)They also offer cool downloads on the site, like desktop wallpaper, to keep your sister (or wife or small children) the hell away from your computer while you’re at work.

I finally had the honor of meeting Nancy Pugsley tonight at a diner. She was picking up more petitions to have the 13 year old monster that raped her 19-month-old granddaughter tried as an adult.

She’s collected thousands of signatures in less than a month (she’d get more if the word “Castration” was somewhere in the petition)…Several network news shows are interested in picking up the story. Keep an eye on it. I think the days where evil little bastards are going to start doing hard time if they do the crime… is finally here!

• Today makes the second day that the Tribe called Brooks have been stranded out here in Stroudsburg (we’re all staying at a hotel near the Pocono Record). The transmission blew on the van, and we have no way home (or I have no way to work, take your pick).
• Much to the disappointment of a well-known designer’s husband, the newly-designed Pocono Record site is up. Despite the overwhelming positive response from readers, my site, and a ton of marketing tests, this individual decided that he needed to write a few emails and tear a new asshole in me for my self praise….
• So let’s recap:
  • It’s been an unbelievably shitty week, with things going wrong , from the car… to almost a thousand dollars missing from our income taxes…. with no explanation.
  • I’ve been here less than a month, and have done what no other webmaster has been able to do since 1998…
  • Fought like hell with several departments to get the news on the front page (in case you forgot what the original site looked like.)
  • I am on my 15th hour here, working out all the bugs, programming glitches, and potential dead links….
  • And some jerk (who I had originally thought was one of that well-known web designer’s kids… with the way he was ranting like a little brat!), thinks I need to be taken down a few pegs…..
  • So you’ll have to FUCKING EXCUSE ME IF I FEEL THE NEED TO PAT MYSELF ON THE BACK FOR ALL MY HARD WORK.

• Faith, don’t get used to this from me, but your design abilities are fine…. but like I said, freelancing don’t pay dick.Here is the formula, I’ve worked out:

  Hours spent on site + Price you pay on software (let’s all pretend we don’t go to Astalavista, okay?), times the Square Root of the cheap bastards who don’t understand why a website costs so much….when their nephew can do it for free…

   

  Equals = JACK SHIT
  It’s a fact of life folks…. unless you’re a damn good con artist, there IS NO Internet Gravy Train….

• Congratz to the winners of Davezilla’s Anti-Bloggie Awards. While I was kinda dissapointed for not winning in the “Biggest Jerk” category… I still contributed prizes and have contacted all of the winners to see if they want it:…………..At least 3 AOL 6.0 CD’s that I’ve collected in the pastmonth.
  So far, everyone has said “No thanks“.
  Jeez, you figure the old “Pyra gang” could use them as paperweights to hold their unemployment receipts, or something.

Well…. it was decided at the meeting today to hold off the new redesign until at least next week. (Gawd bless Corporate America!). This way the art department, publisher, editors and ad people (who were also hoping it would go up today) can test it over & over….

So what are your thoughts? I really wanna know.

We did some initial tests today on the redesign of the Pocono Record site, and all the data went right where it should, graphics laid out perfectly (well, with the exception of a few glitches with the CSS and the templates.)

See, any moron can do straight HTML, but to slice the design up into several templates, using a proprietary markup language, and make it work within a series of very delicate programs, blending with a dash of CGI and database access with the newsroom and AP servers…. now that’s finesse!

Damn, I’m good! :0)

So you see, my dear, while I’m happy that freelancing works out for you and pays well…. Moi? Working for a company owned by Ottaway Newspapers & Dow Jones pays better.

And you reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally have to know what you’re doing to get a job like that.
